I work two ways and I have made peace with that situation. I will spend months with painting and drawing materials and then abandon them for a bit of time with fabric and thread.

I paint with acrylic and flashe paint on canvas or board. Lots of color layers and sometimes text and pattern create a history on the surface as I put in time on the piece. Images pulled from personal photos or from ones abandoned by others float on top of the mess that I make.

I draw with oil stick and yummy Sennelier oil pastels on paper. Sometimes gouache is in the mix as well.

I construct collages with fabric or paper. The fabric works like collage paper and the machine and hand stitching work as the mark making on top of the constructed piece. One of my mindless, fun tasks is manufacturing colored and patterned collage papers to mess about with.
