I paint with acrylic on canvas or board, sometimes collaging with bits of fabric, pages from discarded books, and old homework abandoned by my sons. I build up a history on the surface as I put in time on the piece, letting it take me where it will. I love the ghosts of images that came before and were sacrificed on the way to a finished painting--the mystery of a suggestion.
I also work with fabric to construct collages, again building up a surface, but with the pattern and color on the textile. The fabric works like paint on a palette and machine or hand stitching work as the mark making on top of the constructed piece.
